Yes certainly. I play in order to allow me to work part time not full time. By playing poker I work just 2 days a week.

Basically, I earn about £450 a month from working in the call centre 2 days a week. That covers all my essential rents // bills // etc. I also have a bankroll on the PCUK account and anything I win on that covers anything else i want to do or buy. I also deduct about £100 a month from that £450 to put towards in my 2nd Bank Account for Poker.

The two things are completely separate, but at the moment im inexperienced as far as the MTT Circuit on Poker.co.uk is concerned, so Im doing both to have the security.

Tyler - serious question, not trying to be funny...and I can see the attraction of working 2 days a week, but you talk about 'security' - presumably you reached a decision not to build a career (5d a week) to allow this arrangement. How will this square when your outgoings increase over time - they will - should the poker bankroll not increase in tandem? Do you have a point in mind where you will need to revisit the decision, should you have to?

I'm jealous of course. But curious nonetheless

Youre completely correct my outgoings will increase over time, but at the moment im 20, at home and paying a small amount of rent a month. I can easily cover this from the 2 days a week. I made a real hash of School and whilst I have a couple of AS Levels Ive not been to University or ever really had much time for that sort of education.

With the poker at the moment I am on a very small bankroll, and until i have more experience with the tourneys ill be playing Im not going to commit more funds to it. Im a sensible guy with money and I've never had a debt in my life and dont plan to start now.

I guess eventually I will need to decide if I am earning enough working 2 days a week plus playing poker on the side, and if it turns out i need more money to survive then I guess I would have to look for a better part time job, but as it stands. My outgoings are small, and this current setup lets me have a fun easy social job that I've done before and can do in my sleep, and also play a game that I love, and also have a lot of free time. Whilst im not a high roller just yet, considering I started playing properly in April of this year - Its pretty good going.

    [edit]
Also worth pointing out there arent really "career" options at the call centre where I work. Its very much a closed company and only room for promotion if someone leaves from a senior role, and also I dont think I would want to do any of those jobs! Maybe one day I'll do some sort of course on the side, maybe Music based since im a Musician also, but at the moment this is just a fun way to spend the prime of my life.

As long as you have daft parents willing to prop you up, provide a home and security and carry you if you're out of work. Note the bitter tone from someone who left home at 18 and could never afford to be without an income which covered ALL the costs of living. (No reflection on my parents - it was my choice because I chose freedom over security.)

I grew up in bible belt America where the only sex education you received was in Sunday School - abstinence is righteous and sex is evil. Apparently, I was evil because at 19 when I had a child out of wedlock my parents booted me out. The child's father broke off the engagement hoping to force my hand in an abortion, and I never looked back. I tell you this because my choice to be evil landed me in a situation that didn't allow me the luxury of choosing a path any longer, and I have worked hard to take advantage of every opportunity to make the most of my situation. Life guided me, always looking for the way to make the most money to support my son and it left no time to pick a career that made me happy.

If you have loving supportive parents that are affording you an opportunity to dabble in poke or music, I say good for you. I hope you find a path rather than a path find you. Best of luck taking your game to a level that affords you to play fulltime, best of luck with your music. I wouldn't say you were wasting your time at all if you are finding your way.

    Completely jealous.

Thanks for your posts Matt and Noe. I feel like my life is being scrutinized here but I get what you're saying. Judi I know that at the moment I'm relying on the fact that I'm at home and therefore have smaller outgoings but it's worth pointing out that from august of 2007 to April of this year really I was out of work since I'd been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, and feel free to call me weak because of this, but I completely brokedown. There was shit all in life that I cared about and when I started taking poker seriously (because of this forum!) it changed everything.

I could probably write my life story out but I don't recall when it was universally decided this thread was about me? Surely others play in a more financially irresponsible way?
