So… I’ve been on a bit of a poker break for the last month or two as it was starting to piss me off so much, seems to be a constant string of bad beats or “variance” and the old tilt problem was occurring more and more, so I knocked it on the head for a while. As I thought, what’s the point of coming home from work and sitting here getting angry at the PC?! Hardly relaxing!! Lol
The frustrating thing for me is, everytime I build my roll up to say over £1000 there are bills/debts that I can’t justify ignoring and always end up having to withdraw it to pay for things. And just as I’m starting to enjoy my poker I have to go back down to the bottom getting low stakes bad beats until I manage to not tilt enough to grind my way back up! (Not even that far up!!!)
At the start of this year I said to myself, from now on I won’t withdraw any of my winnings and from the end of Jan til April-ish I turned a couple of hundred dollars into nearly $4k (without buying in to any tourney for over $26). Predictably I have had to withdraw all of it to pay off some of an unexpected 5 grand “bill” and so I am left with small amounts on a couple of sites to try and work it back up again.
It is so frustrating that I basically just stopped playing and had been considering giving up completely….
Anyway I’m off life tilt now (ish)and have decided to give it one last go and this time I won’t withdraw any money until I get into a position where I can make monthly withdrawals and still have a decent bankroll. (This may not ever happen lol)
It’ll probably take ages and I may end up giving up but I’m going to a do a “Jesus Challenge” starting in August. My thinking is it will give me a bit of focus and stop me tilting so much if I’m recording my results and have a specific challenge to stick to.
For those that don’t know, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson did a thing where he started from $0 and won his way up to $10000. Sticking to the following rules:
“To ensure that I keep my bankroll intact, I've adopted some key rules:
I'll never buy into a cash game or a Sit & Go with more than 5 percent of my total bankroll (there is an exception for the lowest limits: I'm allowed to buy into any game with a buy-in of $2.50 or less).
I won't buy into a multi-table tournament for more than 2 percent of my total bankroll and I'm allowed to buy into any multi-table tournament that costs $1.
If at any time during a No-Limit or Pot-Limit cash-game session the money on the table represents more than 10 percent of my total bankroll, I must leave the game when the blinds reach me.”
Obviously I don’t expect to reach 10k but anything over 1 or 2k would be a nice roll to work from. And if not, at least I’m not tilting away my own hard-earned
As I’ll be doing it on Poker.co.uk I will change it so I can buy into any game of the minimum buy-in of 3 euros and also will play the FPP freerolls even though technically I earned the FPP’s by spending money. Apart from that I will pretty much be sticking to the above rules.
Would anyone be interested in:
A: Doing something similar?
Or
B: Reading about my progress in a thread on here/blog or something? (Or shall I just die my poker death quietly in the corner lol)
Anyway. I got bored earlier so made a “promo” video to make sure I do this and basically abuse most of you and psyche myself up!! If anyone is offended, good, you’re probably a miserable c*nt anyway
Check it out here:

Nice video. I had an 80% credence it would be the Eye Of The Tiger.
It might be worthwhile working out how much you are actually up poker-wise, including the money you spent, so that at some time in the future you can re-pay the loan from your personal self back to your poker self.
Also I think you should make a graph of your bankroll (starting from $0) and actually record it every day so it starts to look really good after a bit, and include in it days where you don't play at all. You could update the graph every week and make it your avatar so we can see how it's going at any point.
Also, when you have won some money from a freeroll, are you allowed to carry on playing freerolls while your roll is positive? That doesn't seem in the spirit of the Jesus Challenge IMO as it's about investing what you have (when you get it).

Starting from zero is a bit sackcloth. I'm trying a €100 deposit and full buy ins until I can afford to get below 5%. (Well that went but the €60 that came back I've now doubled to €120). Put €120 in and compare notes ?
Great one mate
Good luck in it though!!
Loving the track. I heard that a few months back and loved it

Good idea. I'm about to email all the sites I've played more than a handle of games on and hopefully they will be able to give me details of how much I've deposited/withdrawn. (Probably not as much as I think!)
The graph idea is good too, though I'm not sure what I'd use to do it? Does poker tracker track sit n go and MTT results? I could use that graph maybe (once I buy poker tracker!)
I hadn't thought about your freeroll point. But I was going to try and play all the forum freerolls next season. I guess that'll be the only one I regularly play.
Not really the jesus challenge if I deposit €120 is it….

Drum n Bass FTW!!
Yeah I think so, I’ve only got 700 FPP’s left though - so I will start off my good bankroll management with some bad “FPP bankroll” management![]()
Cheers for the good lucks btw!
Impressive how quickly some sites have replied with details. Stars, Party and surprisingly VC poker were all within a couple of hours. So were William Hill but their info doesnt go back very far unless you want to pay £10 for it. Most sites I'm either small profit or break even!! I'll post the total once theyve all replied
Nice idea, keep a blog in private forum or something so we can see your progress!
