Hi all. I was playing a £20 rebuy at my local casino the other night (only my forth time) and i cant get the hand i got felted on out of my head. I would like your opinions on whether i played it really badly or not because it is not within my usual style. We had just gone past the first break so no more rebuys, i had plyed really tight and only played a few hands only showing down premium hole cards, two players to my left was a pro played who played lots of hands and the guy next to him was loose passive all others were tight except e new player i didnt know. im on button blinds 100/200 my stack 6500. three callers pot 900 i raised to 1000 with 6h9h trying to steal. sb folds pro on bb calls utg calls new player twoo to my right raised to 2000. I called thinking pot odds and image bb and utg call. flop Kh 7h 8s giving me up and down and flush draw all checked to me i check also. turn 3c . bb bets 1000 utg calls new player moves all in with 4800 I thought about it figured 15 outs to str8 or flush, put new player on the king and called. bb utg fold. new player shows K7 river comes 9s i loose to two pair. I really cant decide if that was a real donkey play or not. HELP
I don't think I would have been making the call on the turn to be honest.
thanks for the input. I can see the thinking behind the push on the flop now. At the time i kinda felt like i was being drawn along by the odds even though i wasnt really happy being in the hand with my holding, i kinda think that even if i had pushed on the flop i would have been called by the two pair and the outcome would have been the same but being the aggressor there was a chance of taking the pot down there and then, At the time i was thinking i only have a draw take the free card. if i had hit i would now be reflecting on how brilliantly i played that huge hand that tripled me up, but that i suppose is what poker is all about. I will take your advice on board though thanks again
As per Scrotes play/advice ...
BUT...Passing after the bet on the turn would have been a far better play. Okay you had odds to call the first bet but forgot to figure in players still to act and calling the all-in raise was horrible ..by this time it would be pretty obvious to your opponent that you were on a draw so... if you hit you cannot get paid off ( Already all-in) plus, you opted not to push on the flop to try to make your hand on the cheap so why change tack half way through the hand?....save your last chips for another effort.![]()
I'd also have pushed the flop. By doing so you are putting the other two to the decision whether they should play and you have a strong line having raised preflop. If you get a caller then you have a good chance of drawing out. If I checked the flop and faced your position on the turn then Id have folded. Your tournament life is on the line on a draw and if you fold then you still have 27 big blinds to play with.
I don't mind checking the flop here. I'd 50:50 push/check. If you push there's going to be at least one caller 80% of the time and I'd rather make my hand before I commit to being all in. Obviously I'm calling if anybody else pushes but you may as well get the chance to strengthen your hand before your chips go in.
I'm probably calling on the turn too. There's 14600 in the pot when it comes to me. If you have 15 outs you win over 1/3 of the time and you're getting better than 3:1. The problem is whether one of the original bettors/callers of 1000 have a better flush draw than you and find that they're also oddsed in when you push.
In the end they fold and you get the right odds to call. Folding leaves you with 22.5 blinds though which is perfectly playable. But calling gives you an expected 32.6 blinds. So I probably call, although it depends on how good the field is and other factors.

The problem Diceman mentions of one of the other players having a better flush draw is usually solved (or at least should be unless the oppo is a donkey) by pushing on the flop rather than checking as per the previous advice IMO; he will not have odds to call purely hoping for the flush. I have to say I'd be shoving every time and counting myself very unlucky if someone calls with a bigger flush draw. Our draws will beat any made hands and we're favourite to hit, so I think all-in has to be the right move on the flop.
One more vote for "shove the flop" here. You've got fold equity, a shove says "AK" especially with a tight image, and you probably won't get called.
