Most ridiculous idea in poker I've ever heard, and basically has only been done so that the big companies can bid to sponsor the players. As I remember from last year enarly everybody there was either wearing FTP or PS clothes anyway, so I don't know what will really happen.

In terms of poker play though it will completely ruin the tournament, and I think the standard of play on the final table will be worse after 4 months than it would be after a day or two as it usually is. Basically every player previously had a good knowledge of how the other players had played and would continue to play. Now everybody's just going to change strategies and take the skill out. Instead of using only the information about their opponents they had previously collected through skill, they'll all throw that away or forget it, and study the tapes, effectively playing a common knowledge game, which IMO isn't even poker.

Dumbest thing I've ever heard. I'd just like it to be known that I'm now officially boycotting the 2008 Main Event. Which to the untrained casual observer might LOOK a lot like just not having qualified for it, but we know the truth.

I suppose they'd get blinded out if no alternates are allowed and their winnings would go to their estate. Bummer of a way to get your first big time cash though - posthumously.

Imagine the sponsorship opportunities!! People will be throwing money at you! You could prob match what the minimum you could walk away with!
