Playing in an mtt the other night and I started of well then took a bit of a hit so decided to pick my spots carefully LOL
I cant remember the exact betting but im in the SB with K9, table all folds round to the button who flat calls, I raise it up (x3 probably), BB folds and button calls. Flop is A34, I make a 1/2 pot bet and button again calls, im obviously way behind and put him on A rag, turn is a K so I represent a monster with AK/AA and make a pot bet hoping to get him off the hand, he dwells for a bit then calls ffs, I have about 900 left and he has slightly less. I now know im in deep trouble and resign myself to checking the river and letting him have the pot and then the poker gods smile down on me and the river is a K ...NOOOOOO!!!
Now the reason for my dispair at seeing a K is because im fairly certain he doesnt have AA/AK, the board is rainbow and im 99% sure I have the nuts. Mateyboy just happens to be Chris Kamara and he is the studio guest on the Sky Open and I have just taken his bounty with one of the worse suckouts EVER and of course they are bound to show the hand on TV which they did
My poker reputation is now in ruinsbut did I really play this so badly?
Kammy had A3 btw
Not as badly as he did.
Walking away is easy. The hard part is standing up.
Fairly sick, don't know the blind levels but he should prob have shoved the flop or turn. Then you'd have had chance to fold with dignity.![]()
What is the point in the 3x raise? The guy is calling on the button with 72o, because it's worth it with the position (cos obviously you are betting any flop in the dark). Just limp the flop (maybe even fold) and check down. Don't even bet the king on the turn here, and fold to a bet on the turn. On the river I'm probably calling a raise or a 2 bet. There's no need for fancy plays here. Good continuous play is all you need.

I dont see the problem you made a play and he allowed it to happen. You bluff the flop and he flat calls, you semi bluff the turn and again he flat calls. You luckbox the river but that happens. If he raises your flop or turn bet you will more then likely fold and he takes the pot.
I take it you pushed on the river and he called (hence your mention of taking his bounty) so he probably thought his two pair was good all the way and he was trapping you.
Sod him runer runner FTW
You went on a mission and got lucky....nothing wrong with that...Well actualy....he let you get lucky by playing very badly!
To win a tournament you have to get lucky.
Just don`t do it too often......and remember...YOU GOT LUCKY...it wasn`t good or clever.
PS. Don`t worry about the critisism by the Sky poker " Experts"?????...they ain`t to hot themselves. Read .(Patronising clowns)![]()
Exactly..If he had raised at anytime i was gone.
The reason for the 3x raise was to hopefully take the blinds as he had just limped. After the flop the only way im winning it is to get him to fold though check/folding would have been more sensible . I think I did play the hand badly in that I shouldnt have been in the pot in the first place but given the way I played I was surprised he called all the way with A3.
Then again..as was commented.."its better to be lucky than good" LOL
