Default Call or fold our house?

BTN plays 31/19/1.6 over about 400 hands. He’s an okay player, he plays a little passively and calls too much in general I think, but I haven’t seen him do anything which is too terrible. I get the sense he’s more of a live player from his general playing style.

The problem here is that I think when he makes this river bet I’m usually always beaten, but his line makes no sense – he isn’t repping anything at all!! My line however has to be at least an 8. WTF is going on?

Seat 1: UTG ($226.18 in chips)
Seat 2: CO ($384.50 in chips)
Seat 3: BTN ($550.57 in chips)
    Seat 4: SB sits out
Seat 5: Woody ($389.75 in chips)
    Seat 6: Laughatme sits out
    Woody: posts big blind $2
    ----- HOLE CARDS -----
    dealt to Woody [6 6]
    UTG: raises to $8
    CO: folds
    BTN: calls $8
    Woody: calls $6
    ----- FLOP ----- [3 8 8] - $22
    Woody: checks
    UTG: checks
    BTN: checks
    ----- TURN ----- [3 8 8][6] - $22
    Woody: bets $18
    UTG: calls $18
    BTN: calls $18
    ----- RIVER ----- [3 8 8 6][J] - $76
    Woody: bets $58
    UTG: folds
BTN: raises to $524.57 and is all-in
    Woody: ( $305.75 to call )
Walking away is easy. The hard part is standing up.

Gut reaction is he has pocket 3s. Would he not have re-raised pocket jacks on the btn and or value raised on the river (although value shoving is obv a fine play too). pocket 8s obv flatting on btn is fine as is value shoving.

CALL (also tell me why you wouldn't)

Obviously our opponents and we do not always play optimally.

Wouldn't 33 raise the turn in this spot? It looks like he just got there with JJ...I guess you gotta call...he cant have 86, J8 or 83...unless hes a sick sick man.

I don't think this is an insta-call, more of a roll eyeballs hold your breath type of call. But it's still a call imo.

I was just curious if anyone else would consider a fold. In the actual hand I did fold, but that was mainly cause I timed out trying to work out what the fuck was going on. I was just soooooo surprised by his raise I didn't know what to do. I started thinking about each of the hands that beat me and none of them made any sense. The only hand that makes any sense is 88, but I don't think we can fold just cause we think someone might have quads, quads here is such a small part of his range even if it's the only hand that makes any sense....after all people do dumb shit all the time. He is never bluffing here though I don't think. He is valuebetting what he thinks is the best hand...but why so strongly now and not at all earlier?

To quote someone off that 2+2 thread: it's still a call though, but i wouldn't fist pump it.
