I dont really post in the poker forum more of a lurker but has anyone been watching season 4 of High Stakes Poker you can catch it on youtube.
They play 7/2. Who ever wins a hand with 7/2 gets $500 from all the other players. Quality because Hellmuth gets 7/2 on the next hand and makes the mouth throw away his KK for about $40,000 Tony Salorio then later loses $117,000 trying to win with 7/2 against quad kings. Quality viewing because he would have only picked up an extra $3500. All a matter of pride to win with the 7/2 Link to first ep YouTube - High Stakes Poker Season 4 Episode 1 - Part 1/5 |

hey jp!
you'll find most of us here watch it so noone really posts it, at least the regulars do, prob should as there seems to be new members all the time and not everyone knows about it you'll find most games that have the same players have certain "side games" built in, or a couple of running joke hands that have come about through circumstances through playing, 72o has always been the hand that everyone wants to take their mates money with due to the fact its considered the weakest preflop hand and has a massive "ownage" value if you can beat a friend with it, amongst my crowd "the biggins" is the main joke hand 23o although suited carrys almost the same respect (named after the hand on celebrity poker showdown when christopher biggins called michael grecos all in on an Axx flop, greco had AK, and turn was a 4, river 5 to take him out, the look on grecos face was priceless being he felt he was far to good to lose to first time players) you'll notice on high stakes poker that there is usually a straddle (the first to act after the big blind puts in 2xbb blind and is then last to act, only allowed in cash games) as a means of generating action, to most of them 100k sitdown is nothing so they try and make the game juicier and antonio esfandiari introduced the 72 payoff game to force more action with weaker hands, it also induces a lot of reraises as noone wants to look an idiot on tv! The other main side bet is to set up prop bets with other people at the table on what will come on the flop, say everyone picks a number, a king or a seven and first card on the flop wins the side pot or reds vs blacks where the dominating color wins the side bet, sometimes in the pick a number game if theres 5 or 6 playing @ 3 quid a number and noone hits then it can roll over until theres a winner, which can offset you playing a wider range of preflop hands, and my personal favourite is pick a suit where whoever has the highest card from a suit of whoevers choice, say you choose spades and you are dealt the ace of spades, then as long as you are still in when the hand is finished you take the side pot, if theres 6 of you playing @ 2 quid a go then theres 12 quid in the sidepot, even if you miss the flop,t,r your g'teed that 12 quid, if an ace hits the flop your playing for 2 pots so can bet stronger, if someone has the king they might call any bet thinking noone has the ace and if you have the nuts without a spade and someone has the ace you can get paid off, on your hand, its all just ways for ppl to liven up the action on a table where you know everyone so well that you virtually know what they have after the first round of betting, by changing the dynamics you create a far looser game, its also a great way to help you evaluate players hands, understand risk/reward ratios, calculating pot odds/implied odds and having a good laugh at ya mates expense when they fold a good hand or get sucked out on because "you were only calling for the sidepot!!" The other good thing about playing sidepot/dealers choice games is when you go back to plain old holdem its so much easier, as your so used to applying slightly harder calculations and better bluffs your decisions are so much easier when theres virtually nothing to consider compared!! |

Cheers prowler wasn't sure if anyone knew about it because I couldn't find a thread.
In Series 3 Phil Ivy was tyring to get a $50,000 prop bet on where the button would land for the very last hand but nobody took it up funny because he would have lost. |

What do you think is the craziest most localized dealers choice game you play?

my favourite is irish rrp, 2 vards dealt face down then one up each, plays exactly as holdem but after the flop bet you discard one of the face down cards |

i'm assuming your joking? theres more action in that game than omaha! theres so many different ways of bluffing, its probably one of the biggest action generators we play!

Aye, I like a similar one where you get dealt 3 down cards. You discard one face up after the flop, then expose another one after the turn. Kinda stole it a bit from you guys I think but it's still an awesome game!
