Quite annoying 'cos I'm stuck playin $10-20 games when I could have been moving up. But when there's more money in online poker accounts than your bank account then it makes sense I suppose

I'm a little worried that if I take money out of it, when I come to repay it I will play more timidly because I'll think of it as my own money. I've never had to stake myself beyond a £1 buy-in before, before I ever even played online. So I've been on a freeroll ever since starting basically. Hopefully I can conceptualise the situation so that when I "re-pay myself", I can believe that I'm still using the money I won in the first place. The psychology of it makes all the difference.

Default Poker break..

Since I started playing regularly online a year or two back I don't think I've ever gone more than 2 days without playing some form of online poker. I've made (small) profit on virtually every site I've played but just lately it seems like I'm playing just for the extra pocket money it brings. I feel like I'm getting bored, I'm constantly making bad decisions and going on tilt at the slightest thing, it's embarassing! I find I can't concentrate and don't really watch the games...and so on.

So anyway, I'm having a poker break as of now for a minimum of a week, but hopefully a bit longer! (Though that will probably feel like ages)

I also think I need to set myself some sort of challenge to rekindle my love of poker! I never really play cash games so maybe I could download pokertracker and start trying to grind some $$$ out, will make a change from sit n gos/MTTS which are starting to do my head in. I also used to play live twice a week but Ive not played a live game since about June so maybe I should start playing live again.

So anyway my question is, when on a "poker break" do you do still read about the game/read forums/watch it on tv/etc or do you just completely ignore poker till you feel you want to play again?

Ok my best poker break ever was when i turned 18. I was playing horrible so decided to not play for about 1 week and read through harringtons books.

I came back on the saturday to play the 10k gtd on a site now dead. It was their biggest weekend cash comp and i blitzed through 120 players to finish 1st for $2.5k.

The very next day i play in a satellite for a Caribbean package. 70 players and once again i blitz through that to win my package to the Caribbean.

What a poker break that was...

Anyhow i have just bought a new book on tournament poker and shall take a few days break to build up some knowledge; i have evaluated my game and realised i am playing far too loose and playing FAR too creative.

Gl in your break, if you can get yourself to do it you will win a lot more in the long run!

I think ive only ever taken one break in my whole poker career and that was last december for 7 days when i went to Tenerife with the family, oh and a 4 day break the morning after my pokerstars win (that doesn't count since i couldnt stop thinking about poker obviously!).

I reckon i will take a 1 month break in Febuary next year since me and matt have got our contract sorted out for what tourneys i am playing up until then.

So you are probably thinking, why am i posting this?

I don't feel that im playing good poker on the net anymore, i seem to do extremely well building a bankroll somewhere and blow it like an amateur. I built a nice $12k from $1k on FTP and now i leave myself with $3k WTF IS THAT ABOUT SERIOUSLY </3 VARIANCE.

Who here has the pleasure to say that they have taken a poker break and have come back stronger?
Was listening to some podcast interviews with lilholdem and others when they havent booked wins for awhile they tend to take breaks also. The concentration that poker takes its very hard to stay focus for huge amounts of time, very few people can do it.

I do think breaks help. When I take breaks from poker I seem to play better or make better decisions.

The only thing I want to comment about books is they tend to be outdated pretty quickly especially with the recent trends in players who are developing over the internet.

Alot of people are saying that the final table of the WSOPE marks the new generation of tournament players.

Also they say that the playing field in america they tend to have alot tighter starting ranges compared to the europeans and quite a few american pros say that the european fields are alot looser, however it also might also be due to the blind structure which they were saying the EPT lends itself to be a crapshot during the late first day levels.
