500 donkaments/satellites/dbl shootouts on PokerStars this year.
I randomly noticed this fact when checking my stats at work today. I only played 102 in 2006. Factor in live play and play on other sites I reckon i'm somewhere around the 600 mark for the year. I was without internet for the first two months of the year and only played 23 in that time. I played 102 last month and am already at the 46 mark this month. I reckon that i'll come close to the 1000 mark by the end of the year with 900 being the under over. That would take - i'm guessing at least 5-7 years in live play. And i haven't even mentioned stts.
Woody, how many hands have you played this year - i'm guessing a shedload?
Anyone else got a guesstimate on how many hands/tournaments/sit and gos they've played this year?
Now i only four table usually - occasionally five but four is optimum - some of the guys who multi-table 12+ donkaments put up some seriously scary numbers. If you OPR a guy like SCtrojans (2035) shaundeeb (3905!!) or lilholdem954 (221then it's quite frightening how many hands these guys see on a day to day basis. And it's no wonder the live pros are getting outplayed.
So in conclusion the internet>>>>>live play!
edit: just found a player - devinr - who'd played 4960 donkaments this year on stars

My 2 cents.........
When i do a nice session (normally afternoons on weekends) i 2 table a 5-6 handed game. Each session lasts somewhat between 2-4 hours and averages at about 80- 100 hands per hour.
When i did that challenge against Lee i played nearly 6,000 hands and i did another challenge to clear the $1,000 bonus on pokerheaven. Again that was well over 15,000 hands to clear that.
This year alone i would say 40,000 - 50,000 hands for me.
I know for a fact Woody would have done way more than that.

I've barely played really, just very rarely can be fucked to get home and play online after sitting at a computer all day at work. Had some fun live cash play this year though.
I doubt I've broken 10k hands, but I'm planning to make a effort to play a bit more the next 2 months to get warmed up for vegas in december.

And how much up are you this year?
Not as many as you might think actually as I only 4 table. In just cash games i'm gonna guesstimate i've played about 110,000 hands - I have averaged 11,500 per month over the last year. This means i've cleared about $4,000 in rakeback and bonus I reckon!! I'll confirm these numbers when I get home tho.
Walking away is easy. The hard part is standing up.
My OPR stats for donkaments etc show my yearly stats thus:
Prizes: $18,327
Profit: $3648
Roi%: 25%
Avg Buy-in: $29
ITM: 111/500 (22%)
I'm not breaking records by any stretch of the imagination but since April I've not had a losing month (although i've only had one four figure profit month too) and that's something i've been working towards for a while, i'm 100% certain I was a losing online player in 2005 and 2006. Game selection, amongst other things changed that.
My records will not be accurate to the dollar due to the re-buy stats that calculate avg buy-in, but i'm certainly not a maniac in re-buys so they're accurate enough. I'm actually meaning to set aside however long it takes to work out my roi% in the different buy-in satellites that i regular play e.g are the $39 freezeouts better for me than the $11r turbos etc...
My sharkscope is $-32 over 543 games, but this does include an mtt win ($12 180 man for $590 so are slightly schewed)
As for live, i admitt I keep no accurate records, but have had two four figure cashes - Bournmouth £2390 and Aruba £3200ish (after stakees are paid) i can't imagine that i've paid more than that in buy-ins this year as haven't played many local games, but after Vegas, travel costs, accomodation costs, satellite costs (aruba, Bolton etc) I'm certainly not up a lot, if anything and may in fact be down.
My record keeping needs work for sure, i imagine one reason i don't keep live records is that it's a lot easier to imagine you're a winning player if you don't. For instance my meetup record shows me to be marginally up lifetime (£50ish i think) but when you factor in travel (taxis back to Bath not cheap), my terrible prop bet record, cost of revels for Matty H etc then meetup games are definitely -ev in financial terms for me.

That pretty damn good that there Donkbox - and you are 100% right about game selection. I'm sure you'll continue to improve and your results will only get better too. Making the transition from breakeven/losing player to a consistent winner is the hardest thing to do, and in fact, most people never manage it.
Turns out my guess was pretty good, i've actually played 112,887 hands this year over 379.62 hours...plus live poker of course so the actual hour count will be way up on that!! Sounds like a lot of hands over a lot of hours, but when you factor in that I have been paid $43.77 per hour to to sit in front on my PC during that time, it really isn't too bad!
Too look at it another way, 379 hours = 15.8 days straight, or 9.5 working weeks...so really i'm slacking quite a bit!! Quite amazing when you think of it like that though.
