    Default Bankroll for stt?

What bankroll level do you use or think you need for a specific level and when do you raise your level?

For say $10 games what would your min bankroll be?

The reason i ask is i seem to be playing a lot of 5 seater games with a fair success rate (10 games for 4 wins, 3 placed, 3 lost) and would like to raise the game a bit but would like to know what bankroll to build to before i do this!

    All suggestions and comments welcome!

    Cheers

I don't like to play with more than 1% of my bankroll at once. But most people would say 5% is nearer the mark. It totally depends on what sort of investment you're looking for: risky but big, or no-risk but small. Most poker players are the former. I've mentioned and discussed several times on here before how my whole bankroll strategy is such that I am pretty much guaranteed to make money, just not very much of it.

The problem with playing with 5% of your bankroll is, in my opinion, that if you lose 3-4 in a row you moreorless have to drop levels. I don't like to be playing with the pressure that if I lose this game now I have to drop down a level. I'd rather have the far-less-pressure thought of, "If I get 90% or less back of what I invested in the next 10 STTs then I'll drop down a level." (i.e. lose 10% inc. rake)

I suppose it all depends on what your end is that poker is a means to. If you just like playing and winning (like myself) then it's fair to stay at a low level and keep winning. A good analogy would be: I'm sure some football clubs that get promoted from the Championship would, a few years later and in hindsight, have wished they'd stayed in the Championship because they were always beating teams and scoring goals. Even though a team at the bottom of the Premiership is better than one at the top of the Championship, at least the fans of the Championship team get to see them win every week, and not lose every week.

I agree with the scrote here, there's no harm in taking the odd shot at the level above, particularly if you think you are running good, but a permanent move up takes a level of confidence in your play at that level.

I am playing off a roll of c$1200 and I don't play any buy-ins larger than $20 usually, be it STT or MTT. This is because I have a pretty good success rate at $10-20 STT's, and when I have tried playing $30-50, I have noticed a jump in quality of play and a significantly lower ROI.

I'd rather swim with the fishies at a lower stake and maintain a good ROI%!

Kind of like what Dice said then......

That is what I generally do, try to maintain at least 20 buyins and every now and then take a shot and play a big buy in tourney with the profit, 'cos $10-20 games can get a bit shite at times!
