    Default Position eh?

Okay so I keep hearing that position is all good. So why is it good? Can everyone post one reason why they think position is so important? What sort of benefit does it give you and how does it help you to win?

Ok. Seeing as I replied to the post you're alluding to. I like position for several reasons. Take the button for instance. Raising from the button is beneficial as you get to see how others in the pot act postflop before you have to act. I am far more likely to raise from late position. If on the button and only the blinds are in the hand and you raise, one or either call, and you miss the flop and they check the flop then it could be considered safe to put out a bet, if only for information purposes. If they've missed or only have a small part of it you could be viewed as holding a better hand due to your preflop action and you'll take the pot.

Holding a button or late position doesn't mean raising is always the best policy of course. You have to take into account how many are in the hand already, how the hand has played before it reached you. Relevant chip stacks to blinds of anyone in the pot you may be raising or reraising, taking into account that any raise or reraise may me met with an allin from someone which is fine if you fancy it.

Oh, and you might want to take into accouunt what cards you are actually holding too.....

ps: Why are you asking this? You know all this and I know you know all this. I'm equally sure you also value position. For me position is quite possibly the single most important factor in a broad sense when playing the duration of any tournament

Shouldn't that be that your missus sees position as important as to the amount YOU can give rather than she can take?

i've not read any1 elses replies because i wanted to script an organic reply.

woody i'm taking this post about position as it is....

So position hey... it's importance can't be understated that's for sure. For me it's the difference between folding A-J utg or raising with the same hand from the cut off when it's been folded to me.

But i think for me. at least in the last few months, position has been an ever evolving creature, for instamce it has meant this to me... i will call for the most part someones continuation bet with position with the intention to take it away on the turn if they check to me. obv this is situantional.

Position is important because it allows you to pretend you've hit before your opponent does.
