Recently something i've started to do more/add to my game is to play good (not great) holdings faster than before when in the blinds in NLHE tournaments.
Example there's one late position standard 3x raise to me and i'm in the SB with A-Qo, A-Jo, K-Qo. Where before i'd probably have flat called 90% of the time and taken a flop, i've started getting more agg and re-raising pre to a) try and win the pot right there B) control the betting post-flop by being the aggressor c) representing a stronger hand than i have and d) even getting it all-in pre so i'm guaranteed to see five cards with hands such as A-Q.
I guess this is a 'safer' version of the re-steal or another type of re-steal. What if there's a raise and a flat call, is this a good spot to squeeze?
Now i'm not sure if this is good play in the long run or not - as in i could be dominated pre-flop. Anyone else do this against certain opponents e.g lag's or TP's?
Whilst i know poker is all situational, do you think this is a good habit to add to my poker arsenal or not? I use the re-steal quite often in live games in casinos to good effect but usually that's with ATC's against the right opponents.
'I figured if I ever went broke at poker, it wouldn't be because my best wasn't good enough to keep me afloat. It'd be because my worst was bad enough to sink me.'
In the face of a LP raise we are normally re raising our our good but not great hands for value. In a tournement I prefer this play when we can get all in preflop or are deep enough to have some leverage post flop. We just need to be careful that stacks are good for this play rather than it being an auto raise. Also, there is nothing wrong with folding too.
