    The thing is, he states he hasn't played in a long time, if you move onto one of the other 50,000 card games out there, ie: canasta, 13, 3 card brag etc. where alot of them a straight beats a flush... so it can become confusing... my dad is at the peak age of 68, and ive had countless arguements with him on how a flush beats a straight... and he's just so persistent its vice versa even after showing him the TH rules. Weird!

    On another note...

    IMHO a straight should beat a flush... in Texas Hold em especially?

    which is statistically rarer a straight or a flush??? I've never tried to do the sums but for some reason I feel like straights are rarer, in which case they should beat a flush. I used to wonder why flushes beat straights but theres not much point worrying or arguing about it. Somebody must know the percentages? come on peeps.

    It seems like flushes are more prevalent because of donks playing any two suited cards. Straights are more statistically likely, think of how many possible 5 card flushes there can be and how many 5 card straights.

    Odds of getting a straight are 20.6-1 and odds of a flush are 32.1-1. This is in any game where you make your best 5 card hand from 7 cards.

    p.s confusingly you're more likely to make two pair or one pair than you are to have just a high card.
