He had taken a while to call the turn bet...

What do I do from here? Bet strong or what?

Was new to the table and very early hand so had no idea what this player was to play against, although he hadn't played too many hands pre flop and did seem to be a tight player from about 10 hands or so, but far too little to judge properly.

I'm checking and probably folding to a decent sized bet, half pot or larger.

Too many hands that beat you here, any set, any two pair and most likely the flush.

My take on the AK is that if u hit the king or ace on the flop then I want the pot there and then, and thus I would have bet more on the flop to try and push them off, probably a pot sized bet.

If you get called in this situation then I'd probably slow down a bit of the turn and river, seeing what the other player does and then make my decision from there.

Yes there are fishy players at 5/10, you being a prime example.

I can't remember the stack sizes Woody sorry.

I checked the river but felt this was a bit weak because he'd obviously try ans teal it.

Although they then only bet $10 which was clearly weak with a $40+ pot. Called and he had a pair of 9's the fool!!

You're right though, I think I should have bet pot amount on the flop instead of half of it. If I get a caller there, then the single pair looks weak, although AQ is a possible and many people refuse to let this go if they hit an ace on the flop.

I think at the end i would put a $20 bet in and if he reraises it then i assume he hit the flush or has 2 pair.

With Thor with the flop bet though, but then again we don't know the stack sizes so not that easy to tell?
Any time you aggressively play seven deuce off suit, the universe will bend the laws of short term probability in order to re-balance the long term probability abuses by those trashy players who only play premium hands

Cheers jglenny, if he raised that $20 bet on the river you'd fold in fear of flush?

I know it depends on opponents, but I've come to believe so many hands are won by bluffing, it is hard to say
