Blinds 300/600 I'm UTG+5, with a 6k stack, on a 9 handed table, the stacks are pretty average all round, and I get 10,10. No raisers and one limper so i raise to 2k. The guy on my left goes allin for another 2k to me. The blinds fold and i call after a short think as I know this guy is shit. He shows 10,J. Naturally he hits his Jack. Did I overplay or underplay my hand? Naturally I got unlucky there, but maybe I helped create that myself?
you're quite correct.....that guy is SHIT!!!!

You can't possilby fold TT getting nearly 4-1 on your money!! Super easy call but then you probably know that already.Originally Posted by Matty H
My preference in your spot would be to just push all in. I mean, are you really going to put 1/3rd of your stack in preflop with an M of about 6 then fold to a push? I'd hope not anyway.
Yeah but gambling is fun you can't really crit him for it!! So Matt came 9th eh?Originally Posted by Matty H
No, of course there was no way I was going to fold.Originally Posted by PokerWoody
I didn't go allin as I fancied some action with the tens and thought an allin would take down the blinds on a relatively tight table. Obviously Mr 10,J gave me the best possible scenario with his allin. I'm not really looking for thought on the way this hand panned out, more how I ought to play if I find myself in a similar position again. You and Phil have both suggested allin here. Maybe allin should have been my bet. The end result would have been the same in this case, but in future.....
That's why I think I'm perhaps overating my tens here? I wanted to get someone in the hand with me, but with hindsight did I really want to see a flop here? If the flop comes out with overcards - although I have position - I don't think I can call any raise here as I leave myself dead and I would have to assume I was now behind in the hand. If I fold I still have another shot at doubling up with my stack around 4k and it's still enough chips, on a tight table, to steal the blinds with, plus I get to see a few more hands before I'm forced to play
From my experiance of home games, this point in the tourny is when people tend to play worst. The focus tends to be on lasting as long as possible where the focus should be on making the money. 9 players left, average M of 6, you should be pushing LOADS of hands from position I reckon, tens are a really good hand.
I'm really high right now. The internet is a bad thing.
Another live tourney. At Sloggs House last night I found myself in an almost identical position as to the first hand I posted in this thread. This time I went allin, but the result was exactly the same![]()
This time I'm on the button with a 6k stack and the blinds at 400/800. It gets folded right round to me on the button and I look down at a pair of 9s. Small blind has around 12k and the big blind has around 4.5k on top of his bb. I go allin. SB folds, BB insta calls and shows.......... K5 off!
Board comes out - A,Q,5,10,J Rivered!!
Not a good weekend. I'd join Sloggs in his rant but I'll only end up in tears![]()
I believe all of us, one way or another, must be aware that things like this simply happen.
Good luck next time
