The SB is a good aggresive player but I also know that he respects my game. We are early on in an uber deep 20k starting stacks mixed omaha and holdem game.
The game is NLHE and we are 7 handed. The blinds are at 100/200
I have about 19k, SB slightly covers me with about 21k.
I raise to 700 from mid postion, it's folded to the SB who makes it 2,000 straight. BB folds and I call 1,300 more.
Flop is K4
8
- Pot 2,200
SB bets 1,600, I call.
Turn is K4
8
- Q
- Pot 5,400
SB bets 4,000, I think for a while and call.
River K4
8
Q
- 9
- Pot 13,400
SB goes all in, I call for about 11,000
I win the hand but what hands do we both have?
Any thoughts on how either of us played it?
Pot sizes are 2k light all the way, I'll put that down to brandy maths.
The stacks are so deep that your range can be pretty huge here given the smallish re-raise and you have position but the SB's is a lot smaller. It's such a dry flop that when you call you either have a big hand or are looking to take it away from him on the turn if you think he's at the weaker end of his range (i.e. not AA, KK or AK). After you flat call the turn for 25% of your stack I'm pretty sure you have a big hand.
I think the SB should probably have check-folded the river.
He's got Ace, King.
I think you've got pocket 4's or 8's and have hit a set.
Or very possibly King, Queen.
Good spot, that means the action is a little f'd up too because I remember the bet sizes on the turn and river but wasn't sure on the flop. I'd guess he actually bet more like 2,400. Anyway, it doesn't really matter.Originally Posted by FirePhil
SB had AA
I had KK
I think, and i'm sure the SB would agree, that he misplayed the hand here. My play I think is standard, I can find no reason to raise the flop or turn.
If we put ourselves in SB's place, what do you think is the best line to take against me here?

Being there and seeing the hand i was pretty sure neither of you were drawing to the flush... however this is my argument for raising the turn.
If a club came down on the river i dont think you would have been paid off as it would have scared both of you slightly, prob a check (by SB) and value bet or check (by you).
So... raising here i think would be the best play because you are pushing while you are ahead and allowing the SB to make the decision whether to play for the majority of his chips... let him be the one to make the wrong call. If a club did hit and he pushed you are then making the hand difficlut by having to make a decision for most of your chips.
I am no expert admitadly - but this just seems logical and the easiest way to play the hand... ultimatly you got paid off but like you said SB has some respect for you and vise versa... a little too passive for my liking.
The SB post-flop raise was pathetic, like has been said it did't really tell me anything about where I was in the hand. Even though we hadn't played many hands, the hold'em ones were pretty tight up until that point, your image up until then made me more confident that you'd be playing a wider range from there and I didn't think the hand through thoroughly... I then didn't let myself get away from it. I recall the whole hand was played out very quickly post-flop too.
Nice hand, I think you played it (and me) perfectly to get the chips in...
I'm actually beginning to be impressed with how I handle potential tilt situations these days... so at least I took something from the hand!![]()

Does that mean you prefer a turn raise over a call?Originally Posted by FirePhil
The way i see this the SB did play this a little stupidly. I would like to have seen a slightly bigger raise preflop.
I think with a caller on the flop on the turn you must have to think your aces are behind unless you are playing on the net then you are clearly in front.![]()
This may sound a little silly but a check on the turn maybe a good idea. With a board like that the player with KK will 9 times out of 10 check behind as well to try and enduce a bluff on the river.
Thats the way i see it anyway but i am shit
