    Default O8 Hand

$.25/$.50 PL O8 10 handed. I don't play a lot of O8 but I'd say I'm pretty TAG (especially compared to most players at this level who play WAY too many hands).

Dealt AK23 in LP, 4 limpers to me and I raise the pot to $3.75, get 3 callers. Flop comes 585, EP leads out for $12, MP calls. I have ~$45 and the pot is $40.25. EP almost certainly has a 5 here and MP probably has A2, maybe with some kind of flush/straight draw for high or maybe just going low. EP has me covered and MP has ~$20 more. Call, push or fold?

A paired board is always bad news for straights/flushes in Omaha. Chances are someone will have a set and fill up (if they already haven't). This is bad news as you could hit your nut flush and still be behind for the high.

Obviously you're good for the low if another low card hits the board, but it may not, and if matey also has Ace, 2 then you would only split that pot anyway.

I would have thought folding would be the best option here.

if you fold there you shouldnt ever play o8 again!!

nut flush high with nut lo and counterfeit cover draws, i dont think pushing will get the other 2 off the hand so a call to see the next card is the best play

(how sure are you of the other 2 players hands? could it be possible both have a 5 and you'll take the lo pot? why doesnt mp have a3 considering he flat called instead of pushing himself?

If you're confident of winning the nut low, and not quartering, then a call/raise would be fine.

I wouldn't be at all confident of winning the high. Yes, you've got a nut flush draw, but:

    a) it's only a draw; and
    b) it could already be behind to a house. Especially in a 4-way pot.

I was always taught that while playing Omaha, if there's a hand out there to beat you, someone will usually have it. So unless you have the absolute nuts you should tread carefully.

i agree with the nuts theory in principle but your basicly saying your folding to any paired flop because a boat MIGHT be out there

I doubt he'll already have a boat... As i don't see anyone calling a pot sized preflop bet with pocket 8's or 5's... and i very much doubt he'll have something like 5678 as it's not a lot of good in O8.

He's probably got a set of 5's and is trying to price the people attempting to hit a low/flush out of the pot.

I'd call here, tbh i'm more worried about getting quartered by the guy with the A2 as i currently have no high hand and he could easily have an 8.
I think if the 555's doesn't have a boat and the turn makes a low with a straight draw and he has no low, i feel that'll be the end of his involvement in the hand.
    Right. What have you got?
    "Three pairs."
What d'you mean three pairs? You're only allowed five cards!
"Oh. Shit! Er, two pairs. Well, two and a half pairs."

    =========================================

"Right, let's get on with the game."
    What have you got?
    "Five kings."
