    Default poker sites rules...

i play a lot of 7 card stud and am amazed by the difference between the sites

for a .50/1 7 stud game these are the differences....

pokerstars.... 5c ante .25c bring in and 50c to complete
partypoker... 25c ante 25c bring in and 50 to complete
full tilt ....... 10c ante 15c bring in and 50 to complete
poker.co.uk 25c ante 25c bring in and no option to complete

is there no set structure across the board or can sites make it up as they go along?

what opinions do we have on the antes sites charge? is it better to have a big pot of antes for the player or does it mean more rake for the sites?

is poker.co.uk's no complete option a mistake or made that way for a reason? it strikes me as a bit odd, and a bit of a kick in the teeth if ya get a low set, has anyone ever encountered this anywhere else? (live or online)

does anyone actually play 7 stud here or am i the only one?

I play more razz than stud, though I do play them. I would have thought small antes and bring-ins were better since you can wait for a decent hand without just calling with something marginal and speculating as to whether its ahead.

i got this a bit wrong in the original post, so heres the correction...

    poker.co.uk 25c ante 50c bring in

the bring in should be at least half that and 50c to complete, 50c bring in is a forced complete which bearing in mind the lowest card showing has to make is a bit of a balls up to say the least!!

That just sounds wrong to me. The bring in has to be small enough so you can fold it to a complete bet in my opinion. I think an ante of 1 unit, a bring in of 2 units (on top of the ante) and a complete bet 6 is right. (4 more for the bring in)

No, and that's a very poor link.
When I registered on this site I had just read the Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart. It's about a psychologist who gets bored with making decisions and begins acting according to what the dice tell him to do. I experimented with the dice for a short while and then concluded that my decisions were so important to the survival of the human race that it would be a crime to deprive the world of them.
I've been playing poker on poker.co.uk before and people have asked me if I'm a dice person. (To which I had to sort of say not really), and they've told me stories of where they've gone and what they've done as a result of the dice. Pretty much everyone who reads the book must have a go at it at some point I think. There's probably real-life stories that were inspired by the novel that are even more amazing than the fiction itself.

I have used the dice to play poker with and still do sometimes.

I recently re-read that book, a great read! I wondered if thats where you got your nickname from.

I never really got into the diceliving though, I let it make a few minor decisions e.g What to have for dinner and then gave up! haha

I think the biggest decision I've let the dice make has been over what take-away I should get, oh and also what sandwich I got from Wetherspoons (tuna- the cheapest). You need some cash to really let the dice do their stuff, with outings to random places you haven't been before and crazy proposition bets. If I had a load of money (that's a very big if) I would just fly to random cities around the world and let the dice decide where I go to next.
