Hi,
I am doing some research into online poker vs. live poker and was wondering how people think online poker has affected poker in general. Would be grateful for a discussion on this topic.
My actual title is along the lines of:
'virtual poker?: The changing gaming practices of the poker community in an internet era'
Nice question mate.
I think for me personally it just made the act of playing more accessible. I have been playing on weekends with my mates for years, but suddenly not only can I play anytime I'm near a computer (and don't have anything better to do) but also on my Blackberry.
As far as more general influence, I would say online poker has boosted the appeal of live poker because so many more users are actually playing poker and they become involved in the world of poker through their online experience. It's like when you play neighbourhood football and it makes it more fun to watch proffesional football because you can better appreciate the action and level of performance.
That's my opinion anyway
Nice Question.
Playing poker online is very helpful for newbie like me, because we can practice (play) the game with out using real money. And if I feel confident that's the time I am going to play live poker.
of course online poker has affected in good ways the live poker. I mean it's easier to start playing online and now more and more love poker
both are just the same for me..
Try to look different poker sites.
I prefer internet poker, as facial impressions are hidden, and you know how important and most of the time hindering it is to trust the look of your opponent while playing poker

Sorry, but not being a poker player (or even being able to understand the betting!) I just have no idea on this one at all. I would imagine playing at a real table would be better than online.

I prefer live by far, it's just more social and therefore more fun.
The online game has made it a lot easier for pros to take money of casual players and it means they can play every day so it's more of a living.
It doesn't do much for the casual gamer though except impact on their social lives.
Playing online just makes it a numbers game alone, even if you sit at a real table with a bunch of dicks it can still be funny.
Definetly LIVE, there is many reasons i prefer live poker, but the most importan is that i can see my opponents, i can see their reaction(when they lose)
