So I was thinking about variance and how people are willing to turn down huge profit edge's to aviod it becuase it 'ruins' the game and it 'isn't real poker'. So I set GusMangoFish a challange....
Who can go all in the most times before going bust!
The rules are simple.
You can only go all in or fold pre flop.
You can only fold a max of 5 times.
You have to play 20 hands before you break
You have to have at least 4 players at the table.
So what do you think?
a) How long (how many hands) can we last?
b) Who will last longest - Gus or I?
c) Is there any strategy to this challange or all just luck?
d) If there is a strategy, what sort of adjustments should we make?
Results to follow...
b...gonna go for the gus on this oneOriginally Posted by PokerWoody
c...mainly luck but you have enough room to pick your spots
d...know which hands you are going to be pushing with and stick to it. I.e. A high K high and suited connectors
no idea on how long you will last, could stay all the way or go broke first hand, also depends on opponants, if they guess what you are up to they might lower their calling standards
What blind levels you gonna try this at?
we're on Stars NL10 right now!!
You see this is why I decided to do it...I honestly didn't think they would. The recent thread on here made me realise that most low stake players are variance orientated and not profit orientated.Originally Posted by trustme
What adjustments should the players at the table be making once they worked out the rules to our challenge?
How much did the both of you win/lose doing the challenge?![]()
I finished the first session with $30 and obvioulsy $0 on the second. So +$10 from poker and +$20 for winning the bet.Originally Posted by CitrusSR
I think a lot of interesting points have come out of this and it could be an interesting thread.
They should limp if you are still to act with hands that they will definately call an all in with.Originally Posted by PokerWoody
Apart from that they should really see most hands are worth calling with, they could easily double up which could take them hours playing on those tables.
I do get your point here, it is pretty strange that some players think more about not losing than winning, especially at that micro level.
Congratulations woody
Yep, they should limp instead of raise (although raising wouldn't be too bad) but the million dollar question is what hands should they call our all in's with?Originally Posted by trustme
A9 upward A10 and so on. Any suited connectors, any pocket pairOriginally Posted by PokerWoody
