I've noticed that a lot of times during poker games, I get myself into situations where it looks a lot like someone may be making a 'squeeze play' on me. I know this kinda play is possible but invariably I think for a little while and then horribly muck my hand. I was just wondering if anyone else encounters this online, and whether they think the squeeze play is prevalent? I mean, does your average online poker play even know what one is? Am I overthinking my games, I play pretty small stake poker and I want to know if I should start calling these bets on a hunch of a squeeze.
Funny you should make this post because I leak of mine I have recently plugged is calling reraises too lightly without the proper odds to do so. Anyway…
Squeezing deffo does go on at the lower stakes but not enough to have to worry about combating it IMO.
I think in these situations it’s best to give your opponent credit for a hand rather than assume they are playing back at you. However, most people, especially at the lower limits, aren’t very good at playing rr pots – this is especially oop. Therefore when the stacks are deepish I’ll often call from position with a fairly wide (recently narrowed!) range of hands. I also see people raising to little when they squeeze and giving us some pretty good immediate odds to call and you can normally factor in a cb on top of this too.
