Pretty standard, you don't want to play for your whole stack by getting c/r and by checking you can induce a bet on the river from a worse hand that would fold to a bet on the turn. You run the risk a bit of a 4th club hitting, but meh.

Smells of nut flush to me.

He checked the turn hoping you'd bet as you'd been the agressor on the flop.

Or maybe he had an overpair to the flop and was worried when the ace hit ?

What did he have? I'm intrigued too now !!!

I posted this hand somewhere else and some people were advocating betting the turn. I think betting the turn is a terrible idea so just wanted to get your thoughts on it.

Anyway, he tabled 66 for a bigger set.

Yeah i kinda agree with betting on the Turn here. Its shows you may have been drawing to the flush and he could have folded. Maybe a bet in the region of $20. If he calls or raises you know are behind on so many different levels. By both checking the turn he knows he is well ahead.

My problem with betting the turn is...

    a) He never folds a set here and if he has a set i'm already behind him and will pay him off if I fill up or not anyway.
    b) He never folds a flush here but he might raise with a flush. This is bad because I might have to fold my set when it has outs to improve to the best hand. In addition to this he will call a value bet on the river when I do fill up AND his value bet when I don’t fill up will be much smaller (which I’ll likey call even if I don’t fill up).
    c) He folds hands which have little chance of catching up with me and we never give him the opportunity to bluff with worse hands.

Yes but he might think he's ahead with his two pair or even one pair.

I always bet the turn card with a flush and I frequently bet it with a hand I think is losing, but with good but not great hands I think not checking here –ev.
