A hand with Mango Fish

Early stages in the tournament, no reads on anyone yet apart from Mango Fish as I have played with him many times. Mango Fish is very LAG verging on being a maniac, but I give him more credit than that (although at times he IS a maniac, this isn’t one of them). He probably knows not to try and push me around too much with weak holdings as I know his game. Plus there are 6 others at the table who don’t so I suspect he will be picking on them and keeping out of my way unless he has some sort of hand.

Everyone started with 3,000 chips, both Mango fish and I have about that amount. Blinds are 25/25.

One limper to Mango fish in the CO, he raises to 100. I call on the button with KJ, everyone else folds.

Flop J K 7 – Pot 275

Mango Fish checks, I bet 200, Mango Fish calls.

Turn J K 7 3 – Pot 675

Mango Fish Checks, I bet 600, Mango Fish calls.

River J K 7 3 4 – Pot 1,875

Mango Fish checks, what’s our plan? I think our bet depends on what hands we put him on, so what hands are likely for him and how much should we bet?

One thing to add as it perhaps has a bearing on things. This was a rehersal game at the Late Night Poker stuidos and was being recorded with all the under table camras and stuff. It is expected they will recored about the first three levels (25mins each) before they won't need us anymore and we will continue the game in the green room.

Just thought it might be better for others to have a crack at it, before those who know the outcome make a post.

I think I check behind. If you bet you're playing for all of your chips and his passive line is very out of character, I want to just show it down.

I can't see him calling with a worse hand that checks 3 times very often.

Spot on I think. This should be be a check for the reason I highlighted in your response. If this was a rebuy or a cash game then I would probably make a small value bet and call a raise. As it was the stacks were to shallow and the game too early to bet the river here.

What actually happened....

I bet 600 chips, Mango raised another 675 chips and I called. He had the hand I thought most likely , 77 for a set and I was down to about 700 chips. I cursed myself all afternoon for betting the river, Mango went on to win the tournement.

Well you said check becuase he won't call you with any hand you beat. I think that plus the stack sizes are what makes this a check behind so you were thinking pretty much the same as me. Althought it appears it is me that has the improiving to do as I went ahead and bet anway
