...and what did he have?
if its ak diamonds the check on the turn was the perfect play by him
it looks like 2 better diamonds but knowing these things he had a pair of nines lol
pocket 4s...both black
Assumedly two better diamonds, but given your comment on you thinking he was pretty decent then I reckon you're gonna shock us and tell us he only had a middle pocket pair not bettered by the community cards.
Don't like your $30 reraise call on the flop given the size of your diamonds and no pair, although admittedly only one overcard onthe board. Particularly if he seems a solid player. The fact he checked the turn after reraising would have worried me. Is he traapping? I would think, although you could assume he thought you were stealing on the flop and when you called his reraise it squashed him. To call your allin on the river he must have had a hand. Either that or your initial assumptions of him were misguided
Interesting that a lot of people put him on diamonds, I don’t think played the hand very well which is why I wanted feedback.
I’ll give you my thoughts then perhaps it will be easier to say where you think I might be going wrong…
Preflop I don’t mind calling here and I don’t mind folding. CO’s raising range is pretty big at this point and it’s possible (but not likely) that my hand is dominated. He won’t open the pot with crap but as well as standard big opening hands he will I think open with low pairs, SC’s, SG’s and OSC’s.
On the flop I like to lead with draws and made hands so this is pretty standard. CO will drop his hand here when he misses - but he doesn’t do that, he raises. What does his raise mean? One of three things...
1. Raising for value/protection
2. Raising as a semi bluff
3. Raising as a continuation bet
I think 2 is unlikely, although definitely possible, and 3 is very unlikely. I think it’s most likely that he has a made hand and doesn’t like the drawy board. At this point I narrowed his range down a bit to 22, 33, 99+, AJ/KJ and maybe a few combinations of diamonds (T9, AK, KQ type of thing). If all my outs are clean then I have 12 outs, 3 to a reasonably disguised nut straight and 9 to flush. When he reraises he his giving me ~3-1 immediate odds to call plus some reasonable implied odds as the pot is getting big and he still has 100bb’s left. The odds of me making my hand on the next card are ~3-1.
The turn is a nice card as it makes my draw and also takes away a couple of combinations of diamonds he could be holding (AQ, KQ or even QT). It’s still possible he has higher diamonds and I don’t like being OOP here. Still, one can’t live in fear and I’m looking to go to showdown. I check to see what he does, I’m not folding but I think there is a good chance he will check. I could have lead and I normally do here, both with and without diamonds. However, I don’t think I gain much more from this opponent this way and my hand is still vulnerable.
He checks. What does this check mean? I think it’s now likely that he doesn’t have two diamonds. Not only are the less diamonds he could have but I think he would bet them. I could well be wrong on this so would be interested in seeing what you guys think. I think he is checking to get a fairly cheep showdown. By checking he keeps the pot smaller and my well induce a bluff from me on the river with a hand I will fold if he bets again now. Not only that but he may have also have the A or K of diamonds and be taking the free card in case I do have the flush.
The river isn’t a diamond and it didn’t pair the board. I think my hand is good and give him the bluff I think he is looking for. The thing with overbets is that they don’t have to be called very often to be profitable and to many people they look like bluffs.
Being OOP sucks though. SC’s OOP suck harder. I think I played the hand like a fish but I’m too locked up in my own thinking to see it. Help me!!
One person has got his hand right. I just won’t tell you which one yet!!
I know its me.... i was the one playing youOriginally Posted by PokerWoody

only kidding..... even looking back i still put him on AA, although to an extent i can see where spicy jam is coming from with his QQ guess - But, would you check trips with three diamonds on the board and then be prepared to call an all-in on the end??If he has QQ he played it very badly on the turn IMO.... if he has a higher flush then fair play to him - But i still think he has AA and has played it badly!!
Yeah looking back at my answer you could well be right Lee. I defintely put him on an overpair to the flop and if he did check trips on the turn with a flush out he played it horribly unless he put Woody on a lower set and wanted to induce a bluff on the end. it would certainly to be hard to put woody on a flush draw IMO after he checked the turn and he could think his boss trips are good.Originally Posted by Raiser
