Default Omaha - How to play

Does anyone know of some software for teaching the rudiments of Omaha?

I remember Top Pair Ace Kicker saying that he had some sort of computer game that he learnt from.

My advice though is just to jump straight on to an online cash game and learn it there. You can play such low stakes that you won't lose much. Mind you, generally the players are so bad that you will probably end up winning.

For reading, there is a section in SS2. I've read Stuart Reubean (sp?) "how good is your pot limit omaha" which I thought was very good. McEvoy and Cloutier have also done a book on it but I have never read it.

Found this "advice" when searching for some good poker jokes:

Could someone please explain Omaha to me?
    Surely.

What you do is get four cards. Doesn't matter much what they are because nobody really looks at them anyway. Next, they put three cards on the board. It doesn't matter what they are because nobody really pays any attention to the flop either. Then one more card for the turn and another one for the river. Same betting scenario as before. Doesn't really matter much what they are, except, for a few of the players that may have "cheated" and looked at their hole cards. These players may now fold if they have absolutely no outs. (Mostly bad sports.) Now, at the showdown, everybody turns over their cards and helps the dealer figure out who has the best hand. You MUST play two cards out of your hand so this usually takes a while and and the winning hand is usually found out after a little bit of searching by all of the players and a partially confused dealer. The dealer now pushes the pot to the wrong player and everybody yells at him and he smiles glibly and says, "Oh yeah,,,sorry" and then sends it in the right direction. Then, after all of that excitement dies down, everybody lets out a collective sigh of relief and gets ready to wind up and do it all over again. Fun game.

Omaha's a great game, well worth on reading up on before getting involved for cash and a couple of hours on the play money tables somewhere is not a bad idea.

    Don't ask me.......

Absolutely love playing it but only when I have won a couple of Hold-em tournaments and I am playing with cash I don't care about. You often end up playing in hands like the one above with maniacs who you have to be prepared to go head to head with or you might as well not play.

(Incidentally, in the hand above the last card was a king, which made me call the river when of course I got beaten by Javicaidas who was holding A-J. Serves me right really)

(oh but i did end the session 30 dollars up, so all was not lost in the end )

I'm sure you don't need me to say this but KK82 isn't a starting hand in Omaha...and drawing to a king high flush in a multiway pot. Hmm...

...and is that LIMIT you're playing??? Fecking hell!

LOL I know, but as I said I really only do it when I am in the mood to blow some cash rather than take it too seriously. This is the reason I only play limit. Pot limit would see me folding virtually every time until I play one hand then go broke against some nutter raising the maximum every street who then outdraws me.

If you think I was fishing with my King high flush, what the hell were all the others drawing too? ha ha!
