Hi everyone, I normally play limit cash games but have started to dabble with nl small stakes tournaments- $10 or $20 buy in- 6 seater single table tourneys.
I've won a couple and finish 2nd so often. Once the blinds go up I'm totally useless lol. Any tips on how I should be playing towards the end when the blinds go up that might help my win a few more than I should be doing? I know you have to be less picky with your playing hand because the blinds eat up your stack in no time! Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! It's a real pain in the arse- just had a load more than the opponent and he just bet his way and eat away at me and went on to win, although going into the heads up stage I was clear fav in chip size!! jjh |

the best thing i found for learning heads up was to first read as many articles i could about it, theory, statistics, odds, pros thoughts and then get a pack of cards and play myself heads up for a few hours with both hands on show, play objectively to each hand and do what you think would be the right move for each one and see how the hands play out.....make a few notes about how many times pairs hold up, aces win on high card, you pair the board, and get a general feel of how heads up works, it will give you an idea of how your hands will play when you can only see your hand
once your in tourney play mix it up a little, try and be aggressive when you think you have the best of it, raising 2x 3x the blind and going all in occasionally, i sometimes slow play AA or KK but rarely call anything else, either fold or raise, if its worth a call, in heads up its worth a raise!! if its possible, get a friend to play heads up tourneys for a dollar online, its great practice and a bit of a laugh at the same time good luck with it, its just a matter of getting used to heads up as most people rarely get a lot of chance to practice it!! |

Cheers mate,
I just find myself folding half decent hands and being too picky, and before I know where I am, he has got more chips than me. Plus I think a lot of it is down to luck really- just came 2nd in one earlier- both all in- he had a few more than me- I had AK and A on flop thought I'd got him, he had 8 4, he got two pair lol and took the 1st place |
