    Default Playing techniques and rivers

Have come back to play the cash games lol, giving it one more go. Just after some opinions please because I just can't get it right.

I was playing today on the $0.25/$0.50 blinds and now I generally only ever call to see the flop if I have a high pair or high cards etc, and got up to a reasonable bank of $80 after a couple of hours, nothing great but going well.

This player looses a huge hand and obviously is frustrated and I get AA, he bet like $3 so I just called and A comes out on the river. So 3 aces and I'm sure he has nothing cos he was really upset about the last hand, he bet like $6 I called, turn was nothing memorable (for now anyway), he bets $12 so I raise $24 he calls then came the river and there was now 3 hearts on the table and he goes all in, it was only another $10 and for the return I grudgingly called to see him show the flush, he never even had a pair or anything, just plain out lucky river!

What I was thinking is how you think I should have played this hand, is there anyone here who will only ever bet once they have seen the river card, because I've lost so many games with it.

Could that be a method of play, only bet or call high amounts once all cards are down so you know you can't get shafted by a lucky river?

Any thoughts or playing tips in relation to this would be great!

generally speaking if i make trip aces on the flop and there is 2 suited cards also on the flop i make a very large bet to scare away any flush or straight draws, if they bet first, a big reraise usually is enough to put them off, sometimes they call which can hurt if they make the draw but you cant help that....

No. Don't even consider trying this idea, it's fundamentally flawed in the fact that to stop yourself getting outdrawn you're going to give everyone free cards and only betting with the nuts.

Theorically whenever you have more than 50% equity you should get as much money in the pot as possible, bad beats happen and you just have to get on with it. You want to be called by worse hands, you make money in poker by other peoples mistakes, don't let people draw cheaply - offer them bad pot odds.

Just make sure you have an adequate bankroll for the stakes you're playing at and as long as you play good poker you'll make money.

Thanks a lot for the advice mate, much appreciated! I think in this instance he was intent in going all in anyway with nothing because he was so angry with the last hand, so the loss was inevitable I suppose! Cash games can be so unforgiving though, I was doing really well till this point in the game!

Thanks again, I think I do need to start betting more in that respect

its like the saying NEVER PLAY ACES SLOW so after the flop i would of made a huge bet, but i think with these online games i dont think it matters what you do a lot of the time the crap wins

Unfortunately there's no avoiding this, just be happy you got your money in with the best of it and move on.
