"On GSN"
High Stakes Poker
I got hold of a copy of the first of this series. Has anyone else seen it?
I found it to be interesting, but don't know how much mass appeal there will be seeing as it is a pure cash game with no "winner"
Basically the setup is that everyone who sits at the table must stake at least $100,000 of their own money, then just play at The Golden Nugget for however long they want to I guess. Even when one of the players busted out, he simply went into his pocket, drew out two $25,000 chips and sat straight back down again. Nice if you can afford it LOL
If it did show me one thing about cash game tactics it was that there is no point in sitting down with a short stack (compartively) to other players.
In the first programme, Daniel Negreanu sat down with a cool million dollars. The next biggest stack was Doyle Brunson and his $500,000, and the rest was made up with people and the bare (!) $100,000 or a couple with $200,000
As a result DN took immediate charge of the table even when it was full of superstars by bullying everyone completely out of pots! raises of all their stacks, and all HIS stack were quite common, and the first half of the programme could quite easily have been called "The Daniel Negreanu Poker School" I thought he was brilliant!![]()
He did get lucky once when holding AJ
against pocket 6's he managed to stay in long enough to hit four spades on the flop turn and river to beat trips... I would argue that the other player (Barry Greenstein) played too slowly when the third 6 hit the flop, and got what he deserved by flat calling all the way until the showdown... (Well I thought he did anyway)
The second half was a bit different, as more people finally got going, but I wont spoil it all in case people want to watch it.
I've heard good things about this, it's real poker rather than just showing a load of hands with people all-in pre-flop as seems to be the case with most televised tournament final tables. Did you download it or have you got it on DVD or something?
did you mean first episode or first series?
ignore me, just read your post properly![]()

I downloaded the first of the series. It only started on the 16th of January.
For those of you who understand how Usenet works it is in alt.binaries.tv.poker
I've just had a look now and someone is posting episode 2 as I type.
Thanks for the info, tracked down eps 1+2, the lineup looks really exciting and the amount of cash is a bit sick![]()

I don't think it is 'better' to sit down with a big stack. I think it is true to say that it is easier to play a cash game with a short stack and harder with a big stack but that doesn't mean it is better to play with a big stack. By sitting with a small stack you play less poker but face much easier desisions. It is also a pain in the arse to play agaist people with short stacks when you are a big stack. This is becuase you can't use your stack agaisnt them like you can another big stack. Mind you, if the blinds were relatively low compared to the $100k 'short stacks' then this wouldn't be true but it also woudn't make any difference if DN had $100k or $1m.Originally Posted by Top Pair Ace Kicker
