Remember the way you play in the first part if the game determines your table image for the rest of it!! All in no outs reply to "keeping chips"
Online I am tight and very aggressive in the first couple of hours of a tournament and then when its getting down to the money, I play with a bit more aggression, taking pots down preflop as much as possible.
Is there actually such a thing as table image anymore in online tournaments?
For me the answer has got to be NO, it doesnt seem to matter how play at any stage of a tournament to most online players, all they see is their own cards and if they are going to bet big with them they will call anything pre + post flop.
A prime example of this happened last night, Im in EP with AQ, blinds 300/600, I make it 1800 to play, another player in mid position quickly calls, Im a bit worried by the quick call, trying to work out what they have when everyone else folds and the flop is delt, QQ9, nice. I check, they bet 1200, I raise to 3600, they raise all in and have me covered so I call, they have 44. All is well in the world until a four drops down on the river and its game over.
Another example of similar play is when you have three or four limpers into the pot, you put in a big raise with a hand like JJ and still find at least two callers, no doubt one will have A3 os and the other KJ, What hands do they think they are beating? Or do they think at all?
Think the table image is more valid in STT's than MTTs where the make up of the table is constantly changing.
A lot of the time though the bad calls (of which I know I can be guilty of too!!) are through a basic lack of understanding, and I think the higher the buy in the less this will occur.
Another reason (and I am sure this has been raised before) is that people watch the telly and see players raising and taking pots down with virtually any two cards and feel obliged to do the same!
Hey, nice to see something i said on another thread has stuck on someones mind!!
I agree that to a certain extent its harder to keep a profile of table images online, due to the number of people and continally changing tables... But i think it is still applicable, however not as much as in live games where it is vital!!
When i replyed to the 'keeping chips' thread i was refering more to live games that i have been playing in more frequently recently... and i my opinion table image is everything in a live game! I used to play lots of hands in the first blind level as i seen it as being cheap and had the 'why not' attitude!! It got to a point where i couldnt understand why i wasnt making final tables and getting in the money - so i changed style and iam in profit!! Am i am not saying this is the key to winning, as who am i to say that - all iam saying is it worked for me and is (touch wood) still working!!
Trustme - good luck in the MTT you are in!! - i will see you at the final table![]()
Ironically I found myself under the gun with AA, blinds 15/30. Just went all in, folded around to the small blind who couldnt fold their A 10. Although i am happy they called, i will never understand whyOriginally Posted by All In...No Outs
