If you were buying it for just nl hodem i wouldnt bother with super system 2, as it has around 600 pages and around 100 if that based on nl holdem.

I know of a great book that i had browsed through and i would like to buy it but cant remember what it was called.

I've been reading a little bit of Dan Harrington's book recently. (It's a freind's book, so just having a little look when I'm at his house). I have found a lot of interesting and helpfull information in it, but there is also a lot of useless examples, and a lot of stuff you probably know. As a general rule of thumb I don't read poker books, but if I was to read one from front to back, I imagine it would be Dan Harringtons.

Whatever type of games you play your reading list should look something like this:

    1. The Theory of Poker by David Slansky. This should be the first poker book everyone reads. It doesn't focus on holdem and is a bit boring to read in places, especially when it's talking about games you have never heard of before, but it tells you exactly what the game of poker is about and exactly how you win money playing it. Essential first read.

    2. Harrington on Hold'em Vol 1 by Dan Harrington. If your are playing big bet poker in either cash or tournament form this book is pure gold dust on every single page. There is not a better, more accessible, big bet poker book out there.

There are many other excellent books out there but I’d start with these two first and it that order. If you're looking to play limit instead of big bet poker then swap the Harrington book for Winning Low Limit Holdem by Lee Jones (or you could try Getting Started in Holdem by Ed Miller. I haven't read this book so can't comment on it but he is an excellent author and I believe it works as introduction to his more advanced but totally amazing Small Stakes Holdem).

I see you live in Bristol. If you are part of the Bristol and South West Poker Group then I can lend you some books. I have David Slanskey's and Super Systems and a few others. If you do not want to waste money then don't buy anything by Phil Helmuth - petulant prima donna that only wants to talk about Me!, ME!, ME!

Put a post on the Bristol meet me and I'll reply.

Good advice about Helmuth - Play Poker like the pros is a rubbish. Super System is good but I wouldn't recomended reading it until you have read some other books. It's concepts are fairly advanced and not easy to implement properly. More importantly though it is aimed at higher stake cash games...you can lose a lot of money from reading that book.

realy kind gesture mate, but to be honest i absolutley hate reading and would probably read like two pages a week or something, and end up borrowing your books forever, which would be rude of me.
    thanks very much anyway...very kind
