Will anyone belive me if I blame this hand on multitabling?
Ok, this doesn't answer your questions yet, but can I ask one question to get started? - Why do you multitable? Do you see the lower stake games as more easy pickings? If not, why don't you play higher stakes games?
Just a question that I'm curious to. Please don't take it as any sort of criticism. I've neevr been one to multitable. I've always found it hard to channel my emotions and sense on more than one table when decisions are required so frequently MTT ing
Not sure on why other people multi table, but if i am playing cash games i generally multi table or jump in a sNg or multi table tourney. To sit on any table for a few hours or more can bore me and after a run of bad hands ,9/10 suited starts looking like ak suited and at times aa.I tend to play other games at same time to stop bad raises and bad calls and it works wonders for online game!.
agree with cuyber. cash games are pretty boring when you're aren't catching anything. I've got 2 monitors hooked up to my pc. usually play 3 cash tables and one big multi at a time
I have to agree with Matty here, I find multi-tabling very hard in terms of concentration. Trying to keep track of all the players on the tables betting habbits and things like that is a nightmare. If you guys can do that then fair play, but I like to stick to one table where I can fully concentrate on everything going on. Although on the odd occassion, I will play 2 tables, but this is only if I am playing one game, and an MTT or STT I am registered for starts.
I can see the main reason for multi-tabling being the boredom factor, waiting for good hands, folding lots etc. I suppose some peoples reasons would also be to make more money by playing more tables, but can you really concentrate and keep track of 3 or 4 tables at once? Do you think your performance is the same as playing one table?
You only play one table when playing live, and it takes much longer to shuffle and deal, and people often take longer with their decisions. I know the banter at a live table is interesting and prevents boredom, but surely playing only one table on-line isn't that bad?
i used to only multitable on tournaments but recently I have played cash games in the background too, like everyone else I do it because of boredom.
At the moment im playing and mtt, a sit and go and a cash game, this has become my normal set up.

I multitable because I can win more money by playing more tables. What tends to happen when multitabling is that your win rate per table drops for each new table you open but the result is a greater £ per hour earned total over all the tables. The trick is to find the combination that offers you the greatest £ per hour. There becomes a point where you are playing too many tables and then you aren't getting an optimum win rate. For some this may be 2 others 6 or even as many as 12.
There is also the bordem factor which others have mentioned. When I get bored of something I start to look for other distractions. These always take two forms, poker fourums and porn. I'm actually getting to the point now where if I am reading poker fourums of looking at porn when playing poker I just switch my PC off and go and do something else. If i'm distracted i'm not playing my best poker.
Oh and I don't player higher stake games because I want to spend my winnings rather than use them to grow my bank roll to move up to the next limit...and in all honesty i'm probably not good enough right now.
Moving up is an expensive business. I currenlty have a $4k bankroll to play NL100 and NL200 so 20-40 buy ins. If I were to move up to NL400 then I would want a bankroll of at least $6k but really i'd be looking for nearer to $8k. Then once I get there I can expect to lose a fair amount getting to know the game and the differences between the limits until I am used to and the new one. If we allowed 5 buyins for this then it is 'costing'* me $4k in bankroll growth and $2k in buy ins. That is $6k I could have spent on holidays!
*I know I'd still have the money in my bankroll but as I wouldn't be able to withdraw it id consider it a cost.
How many hours would you say you play online in an average week Woody? Taking into consideration your multi-tabling too, for example: 2 hours playing 4 tables would be calculated as 8 hours. (Like you mentioned, more tables, lower stake, better win rate).
Also, what do you think your average win rate (in $) is? Weekly, or calculated to an hourly rate. Just interested.......
