Everyone has a favourite hand, a hand that is not strong but has brought you quite a bit of luck. I have a most hated hand, especially online and it is Ace Jack (sooooted or not) this hand always fools me and costs me a lot of chips. This is closely followed by a pair of jacks, another hand that tells me to throw a lot of chips away.
Has anyone else got a hand that looks good to them but brings bad results time after time but still the fold button never works when you see them?
Q 10, on or off, always one of the best hands you can have @ poker, guaranteed!![]()

It is quite easy to luck out if you are all-in pre flop, but its playing after a flop that comes all low or middle cards that it becomes more dangerous and although it is becomes a *little* easier to lay down if someone bets large on a raggedy board, the thought (2 over cards.... 2 over cards..... if an Ace or King comes you will have the nuts........) is always lurking there too.
The fact that someone may have hit trips is nowhere to be seen most of the time lol..
found i was holding AK in a home game last week, just after the rebuy period, just after my pocket kings had won me a lot of chips, raise it to 2000 to play and get one caller, flop comes A-8-10, i bet 3000 this time to be put all in, without even thinking about it I call to find im against trip 8s and drawing almost dead, all that is left for me to hit is the miracle staight...which doesnt happen.
During the couple of seconds that i had to think about it i thought that i must have been up against another AK.
The most important part of poker is thinking and putting your opponent on a hand, after the flop i should have been doing this instead of rushing to call with one pair and a nice kicker![]()
I'd agree with you regarding JJ. Its a tough hand to play, If you get a pre-flop caller after you've made a reasonable raise, and a AKQ appears you shit yourself thinking they've hit a bigger pair than you.
If I ever get JJ i prefer to check, or if someone else raises, then i'll go all-in and hope for the best![]()
There is no harm in playing JJ for set value only if you feel uncomfortable playing after the flop, especialy from early postion - If you have raised it up pre flop and the flop comes with high cards surley this is a good thing no?
My personal favorties are 75o, 63s and 85o. In fact I can't think of any two cards I don't like....
If there really were "good" and "bad" hands to play then there would not be be things like bad-beats or miracle-cards because truely good hands would not get beaten and bad hands would not win.
There is no such thing as "LUCK". It is a word in common used to describe an unfortunate or fortunate sequence of events. We know mathematically that JJ will win X% of times over time. Knowing which time, in advance is impossible (unless you cheat). There is no thread tying you to a sequence of losing JJ's.
Bad hands start with 2-7o and end with AA being the least bad. This "badness" is only because of the mathematical probabilities and the sequence in which you receive them. There is no such thing as bad hands - only hands of varying probabilities.
had them in a tourny this evening, blinds were quite large, went on a stealing mission, get raised all in and felt obliged to call, up against KK... doh. the other jacks pop up on the flop. life is peachy!![]()
Wouldn't say I have a favourite or least favourite hand but am very wary of getting over-confident with 10-10, JJ or even QQ to an extent. Usually just limp in hoping to catch a set on the flop (unless of course the games very shorthanded - in which case it's a monster)
Generally I find AK to be a pretty good hand - unless you're unlucky enough to be up against a pair of either. Am pretty sure this hand holds up for me more often than not
I would rather be holding AK than AA at times. It's easier to get away from AK if the flop's unkind. I find it a lot harder to lay down Aces
Oddly, my favourite hand is A-10 suited. No particular reason other than it seems to work for me on many occasions
