http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6002298/ Poker bots playing on the net- raking in the dough for their masters...
I have encountered bots on Enemy Territory etc also... with 10times the kills of us meagre humans ! - so beware. maybe everyman Should be armed with an odds calculator, maybe some pattern analysis in it(, and maybe knowing how to play helps!)
thoughts?
I came across some bots on a beta testing site, Apparently they were collecting information to make sure the table and game format was working correct.
I just find it a little bit dubious, these bots didnt call much when raised , but when they raised (which was hardly ever) it was always after the flop and they always had a great hand.
Another thing i found strange they were seen in the odd multi tournament.
Im suprised they put the Makers address up!! Surely all the major Poker sites will know about this software now though and do something about it? Or will they leave it unless it becomes a big problem?
Any time you aggressively play seven deuce off suit, the universe will bend the laws of short term probability in order to re-balance the long term probability abuses by those trashy players who only play premium hands
Obviously these bots cannot make decisions on feel though? But only mathematical decisions? And surely the bots can only be programmed to the standard of play of the creator? If I were a decent player I wouldn't be too concerned playing these, unless they knew my cards of course!
To add: It can only plays the best hands, ok so it's hardly ever be going to see a flop and when it does you know it has something! Like a normal tight player,
It can learn playing styles, ok so it learns a style of a red hot player, who changes style at the drop of a hat, does the bot get busted?
It can bluff, ok would it not be easy to stick a raise in when you think it's bluffing or even when you don't just to pressure, and chances are it would fold? Or even worse he would re raise when you have a monster.
The more I read about this the more I would like to see one in action.

If you find a bot who can help you win money, please tell me! IŽll pay you many money... IŽll pay you 4 $![]()
Just get texascalculatem which is very helpful no matter how good a player you are.. it is able to calculate the odds much faster than you would be able to do with mental arithmatic.
Some nice URLs but there has been many article recently around poker bots so its nothing new.
http://www.pokerprobot.com/
Thats a url to a bot which is apprently all over places like 888 and ladbrokes (according to Pc Format)
www.texascalulatem.com is the url for the other app.
Why has it come to this?
From my understanding of the whole matter the reason bots end up making some cash is becuase they dont make any decisions based on feel - they play a pure odds game calculating the outs and calling/betting accordingly.Originally Posted by jackpot_stu
There was an excellent article I read ages ago about one of the first bots and the programmer behind it. Don't have the link on me but I'll try and look around again later.
The basic premise is that by grinding through the night the bot might not rake in the huge sums of a real player - but it will hardly ever lose much either. It plays poker as a numbers game - and it doesnt get tired or lose focus - that brings in a couple of big pots even if you learn how to play properly against it there are thousands of players out there with no idea and it can probably be made to jump tables often to reduce the chances of being banned.
Im against the whole poker bot thing, then again I'm not such a big fan of online poker anyway - but I suppose any situation where money can be made - people will come up with ways to explot the system.

Heres the article I was talking about.
Poker bots have become a market of their own selling the software from $20 to $200+ is a nice alternative revenue stream for the online poker sites.
What really got me thinking was the fact that a lot of online casinos are extremely interested in this [sure most of them ban bots - but they're not that easy to catch] but more than that take a look at the recent $100,000 poker bot tournament which was sponsered by GoldenPalace.com. Now if i were to be an extremely paranoid conspiracy theorist I might think the online casinos have a plan to have their own bots sitting on the tables with us - that way they take more than just the rake...
this is growning concern about the use of bots in online poker, some of it is genuine and some of it is not, I was talking to someone recently who was sure that he has encountered them on a very low limit cash game because he found it strange that with a full house the opponent flat called. His first thought was it must be a bot, got him round to thinking that it was most probably a beginner coz a bot with the nuts would obviously reraise.
anyway here is a link to an article from a normal online poker player who purchased one just to test them.
I found this quite interesting and also the actions of the site he used it on.
