    Default Position in Hold 'Em

When you first select a seat, what are the factors that go into that decision? You want a predictable rock on your left where you can"play his button:"

You want position on the players you are trying to get in a big pot against. You want position on the frequent raiser. It there is a very aggressive or a good player, you want at least neutral position. Keep in mind position all through the game on every bet, call, raise, or fold.

One reason to get there when the game starts is to select a seat based on where your opponents sit. In a ten handed game, I prioritize targets. You decide before you squat who to play a big pot. The most notable reason to disregard this rule is if you are playing with at least three Englishmen. They are known to be soft hearted and somewhat timid, so you should attack their blinds at random assuming the other two Englishmen will make a pity fold. Johnny Hughes

    Or men wearing blue ties.

A very uncharacteristic sweeping generalisation after a logically minded post.

I don’t think so if, you look at his past posts he’s said some solid and intelligent things.

This time I’m guessing he forgot the domain name is .co.uk before he posted. Many of this forums members will be from the UK and this kind of statement isn’t going to go by without comment.
Then again even if he said “French never check” I would contest it.

Put simply this theory suggests that Dave “Devil Fish” Elliot and I could be played the same if we sat down in a multinational ring game. Now I'd be honoured if this was the case but I don’t think it is.

I was poking a little Lone Star fun at you Englishmen. Y'all don't talk like us. Johnny Hughes
