I think you need to look at these things in context as this is one of my regular after dinner discussions!
Any sort of gambling (indeed most sorts of conventional investments these days too!) carries risk and any sort of tipster, hint guide etc is simply trying to increase your winning chances and make the entire process a better thrill i.e. because the likelyhood of the win is real.
Many conventional gamblers have become millionaires through their art and you will be told this is because there is a skill involved with knowing which horse will win, which golfer will put a hole in one etc.... but they share the same predictive pitfalls i.e. the horse that falls at the first fence or the golfer who stays in bed with a hangover!
You should take a look at my site lotto-systems.co.uk we try and "share the pudding" so to speak i.e. we identify what has happened in 5 global lottos and we update it and post it for free after each draw, our analysis demonstrates what we have said is true, but it doesn't mean that you will win the lotto tomorrow.....that takes dedication, time and as with everything really, a bit of patience.
In context therefore I say that they are one and the same. The difference with predicting lotto numbers and predicting which horse may win a race is simple to explain in terms of reward....there are over 13 million possible combinations to win a 6/49 lotto and the jackpot prizes are generally in the millions of pounds/dollars, there are generally less than a dozen horses running in a race and quite often you are luck to get even odds unless looking at the more specialist races such as the grand national, in which case you have to hope your horse gets past the first fence.
I hope my answer helps and that I haven't broken any forum rules with my explanation.
best regards
Simon
