Going back to the original post. You cant decide that lottery is not random based on 1500ish results. There are 13,983,816 possible number combinations and you saying that 1500 that have come out so far should be evenly distributed among the possible 13 million? that doesn't work out in maths at all mate. I'm sorry but in maths terms what you suggesting is worse that flipping a coin twice and both times it coming up heads and that's evidence enough to prove its a biased coin.

Even once there have been 13million draws you still wont have seen all the possible outcomes. does that prove its not random too? To be honest that fact that there is no correlation in the numbers suggests that is it random when considering such a small number of possible results.

I think you may misunderstand the definition. Ill give an example that is in one episode of 'Numbers'. Someone gets 10 people to stand as they see it randomly in a room. They space them selves out evenly around the room. This is not random as the spaces between each person is similar. if it was truely random one of more would be right next to each other and the differences in distant from one another would be drastically different.

I'm not posting this to prove the lottery is random but i'm disproving that it can't be proved random based on the evidence given in the first post.

I would have to suggest that the UK Lottery and other lottery games are not wholly random, certainly not as in 'infinitely' random.

The reason for this is due to there being only a finite set of numbers from which to choose, i.e., 1 to 49 (Lotto), 1 to 50 (EuroMillions), 1 to 45 (Irish Lottery), etc. The question to ask, is there 'randomness' within the parameters of the range of numbers? To this question, the answer would be 'yes', but over a period of time, one would expect to see a bias of repeated patterning appearing.

However, the timing of the appearance of 'repeated patterning', is where greater randomness occurs. it could begin to appear within weeks of the lottery starting, or none may appear for months or years. We have to bear in mind that the idea of 'randomness' and 'pattern' appearances are meaningful only to our reasoning minds, because we seek to predict future number sequences in order to profit from their appearance. Repeating patterning only suggests something of 'determinism' to our minds, and in meaningful terms we think it shows something of bias towards certain numbers. In order to explain this seeming 'bias', we should look perhaps, towards the mechanics of how the numbers are drawn.

For instance, with UK Lotto, we should not expect to see the same number sequence appear twice until at least after 14 million draws, but there is no mathematical law that states it cannot appear twice before then, only statistical probability suggests it won't.

Using machines to draw a sequence of numbers introduces some probability of determinism, because machines work in the way they have been built to work, over and over again, without deviation. So, as long as the balls are of the same material, same size, same weight and mass, their motion in the machine should be unbiased. The fact that each ball has a number painted on it should not influence that that number be drawn more often than the others...it's not a number that is appearing, but a ball with a number on it. By giving each ball a designated number, you are simply identifying that ball from the others, like giving a new born child a name.

Of course, if the balls are slightly different from one another, then that certainly introduces a definite bias, but the balls and the machines used are under strict regulation and control...fraud and deception can be ruled out to a degree. At the start of each draw, all the balls have an equal chance of being picked by the machine used, previous draws cannot influence the present pick. The only tools one has available to use in making a pre-selection of numbers, is probability and intuition, neither of which influence the actual draw.

As far as I know it is safer to play online lottery. Because it is harder to scam players.

There is no way that the lottery is anything but random!

The national lottery is 100% random. every single spin is a totally independent event to any previous spin. however, due to the law of averages, over an infinite number of spins, each number should come up more or less as often as any other number. So when there is a situation where statistically a certain number has come up much less often than all the other numbers, then it will have to come up more often in the following spins to average out the spread. But because infinite number of spins is extremely far away from whatever draw is currently taking place (even if its the one millionth draw) the slight increased odds of a hardly drawn number coming up is so minute as to statistically be irrelevant.

So basically on the next draw, every ball has almost same odds of coming up.

I think it's random. It would be too hard to cover it up if it was fixed. If it is fixed can you choose me as the next big winner please?!
