The Smoking Ban - Your Views

I was checking out a part of Kirkcaldy in fife called Templehall recently & noticed ALL 3 PUBS in the area (Templehall Tavern, The Buccaneer & The White Heather) have all closed down leaving the area with NO PUBS whatsoever. This is a clear example of the effect that this ban is having on communities. Loads of people who used to go to pubs and enjoy a pint & a fag no longer do so as they would have to stand outside to smoke.
Smoking ban a success? I don't think so. Just ask any of the many EX publicans who have been forced to close because of it.

I love breathing smoke free air, yes, its a shame that the smaller pubs are closing down, but in the years to come it will be second nature to everyone.

As a non smoker I can fully agree with you on this point. I just think it would only be fair to allow some sort of separate INDOOR area where smokers could still enjoy a fag with their drink without inflicting their secondhand smoke on non smokers. But I fully agree with no smoking in food outlets. Smoking indoors while people are eating is in my view disgusting.

The smoking ban was a long time coming. A few years ago I used to go into a pub that was full of smoke due to the landlord not turning on the extractor fan. Why i stood it back then I don't know, maybe because a lot of pubs were doing similar. Now, all the pubs are clean, the air is now pretty pure and when you touch tables your fingers don't stick to them !! ... good result.
