Dear Tyler,
I think your CV is excellent. It's not necessarily how I would have written it but that's the point. It sounds like a person: very hard to convey in a CV format.
One question (and not a criticism); is it strictly necessary at this point to mention taking a year out? It seems to me that the point of sending a CV is to get a foot in the door. Any aberrations of temperament or health can be warmly explained during the interview as the force of your personality wins them over.
Best regards,
Clare.

Drunk as a SKUNK!
Im pretty happy with my CV and the only reason I put that in was because it will always come up when people ask why you took a year off. I mean. I think having a year's gap in your CV is worse than just saying you were really ill for a year.
I dunno. Throw it open to the floor - but I was discussin my CV with rfph a while ago when I was updating it all and decided that just saying "A year off due to illness" was better than "September 06 - July 07, September 08 - June 09"
IMO make the gap year a little less obvious, and then if you are asked about it you can tell..

WOULD YOU PREFERE
indoors or outdoors?
Either.
this country or abroad?
This country. Somewhere in London or in Uxbridge // Hillingdon (towns on edge of London)
9-5am or 9-5pm?
Either, regular hours preferred rather than changing shifts, dont care what they are. If its 9am-5pm or 6pm-3am doesnt bother me.
male enviro / female enviro/ or mixed?
Not fussed.
using your hands or your brain?
Prefer my brain - but unless we're talking construction work I can use my hands. Dont wanna be a bricky per se.
work with animals / kids / or adults only?
Id prefer Adults really, but kids would be okay - i thought about becoming a teacher before. Animals is a nogo.

Resisting the (obv) temptation for cheap jokes.. (Thanks Matt, lolz @ Matt watching his "Carry On" Box set.....)
I was interviewed once by a guy I knew well, we did not like each other, but I think I already had the job locked, and the interview was a legal formality. The interview was a panel style affair, and he had to mention "We don't like gaps in CV's". The job involved caring for vulnerable people, and what he meant was that a "gap" left open the possibility that the candidate had spent time at Her Majesty's Pleasure, which would leave them as employers open to expensive problems later on. If any job you apply for has any such concerns, make sure that your cv cannot be misinterpreted in this way.
ps Dice's "poker-style" advice re. proficiency in languages is a risky strategy IMHO, unless you are the sort of person who can achieve proficiency at very short notice.
Anthony Burgess said "There is no reason why a person of intelligence cannot be fluent in Malay within six weeks" But then Anthony Burgess comfortably read and wrote in at least twelve languages, and recieved Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres distinction of France and became a Monégasque Commandeur de Merite Culturel.
note to self...
English, Russian, Farsi, Malay, German, French, Spanish, Greek, Latin, Italian, are we at 12 yet?? Gaelic, Swedish, Anglo-Saxon........ etc etc etc
