On my external hard drive i have approx 180 mp3 music files/albums and all are saved at diff bit rates (128kb upto 320kb) in my wisdom i decieded to convert them all to the same 128kb rate![]()
I went onto download.com.. downloaded a program called switch sound file converter, which should convert these files. Yes it did, but now the files will play for a split second before no sound..the progress bar is still moving along the bottom of my itunes player but no sound.
I have also tried using wmp and the same happens.
Then i tried using a mp3-wma converter with the same results. does anyone know of a restore point for external h/drives
PLEASE someone help as i dont want to reload 180 mp3 albums![]()

I have Switch. When you convert files they should just copy the originals and then produce the new versions in a new file, leaving the originals where they were. Or have you deleted the originals as well? If so, have you tried converting the new files back to the original kbps?
Doesnt look good Cay.
The software may have created the new file then deleted the old one, in which case there are software products to undelete. However if you ran a batch convert on several hundred files then the deleted files are most probably overwritten.
I assume you back up your data regularly ? Thought not![]()
Today, I have mostly been : ...
SHITE just found out what ive done. When i re-opened the converter the format has change to m3u format ??? dont even know what this is. Changed to mp3 amd closed down / re-opened and its gone back to m3u format. aaah fk does it do this for you d/man?

I think that you converted them to m3u is the big problem here. As far as I know, m3u isn't actually a multimedia file as such, it's just text information about multimedia. I don't think Switch can re-convert things back from m3u to mp3. I think your best bet will be finding out if your hard drive has a system restore faculty. Otherwise you'll just have to re-rip all your albums. I'm not sure why you thought all your mp3s ought to have the same bit rate. Mine range from 10kbps to 1.53Mbps and there's no noticeable difference between them.
It was for my car. When the bit rate is above 240 it wont read em. just goes quiet for approx 20 seconds then moves onto next song. So as i said in earlier post fk fk fk fk.
TY mate. do you think slinging it throught the window may help?
