Mobile phone backlash.

Having fallen in a canal on Sunday, thus destroying my mobile, I've been without a phone since then.

It feels strangely liberating. The mobile phone has become such an integral part of our lives, I wonder if I could go one whole month without replacing it?

I don't think I know anyone who hasn't got a mobile phone. Does anyone here not have a mobile, or know someone who doesn't?

I've had the same mobile now for about 5 years and I've still never memorised the number.

When i go on holiday i just leave the phone at home!

What i like the most is no one can get hold of me, no one knows where i am and its so bloody nice!

I went 6 months without once. 1st month was lovely - after that. Royal pain in the arse.

I've had mine about 8 years now, and still have the same number, lost it a few weeks back when i was pissed and it felt weird without it for the 2 days it took the replacement to arrive.

I can remember seeing a bloke walk in a pub years ago with a great big thing with a huge ariel, and a big transformer type thing that was the charger, back then you thought ''show off'' these days i can't think of anyone that does'nt own one.

feels link a missing limb without the phone now days.. even a walk accross the road to the shop and I need to have it..

wonder how the hell people managed before mobile phones

Mind you on a side note I am very glad my drunken teen years were just before camera phones were common place.. everyones stupid drunken antics end up on facebook and youtube now days

Yeah, you falling in the canal was hilarious, I was glad to have such a good view of it all going down! The look on your face when you surfaced again will stay with me forever. hahahaha awesome.

Funny thing is though, one of the first things you said when you got back on the boat was "wow, my mobile phone still works!" I guess you got bluffed!

lol, yes it was pretty funny. One of my highlights of the trip. Very funny that Adski has put me down as "Sub Mariner" on the facebook group too lol

Yeah, I could switch the phone on when I got out of the water (was the first thing I checked lol). But, then it switched itself off immediately. I was able to turn it on again later, but then it died for good.

Look forward to seeing our crashing videos later (Ad is going to help Justin upload them). I am very glad that nobody filmed me falling in the water!! I'll have to take your word for the expression on my face - I'm guessing it was that of morbid fear though.. Really thought I was going to die!! (even though I can swim - strange!).

I did a similar thing when my last phone got dropped in water... I since found out that if you take the phone apart as best you can and let it dry out for a few days then it should still work. But turning it on straight away causes it to short circuit or something as its all wet... not sure if this actually works though because like you I turned mine on straight away, it worked for a few seconds and then died.

But if anyone else ever dunks a phone, try drying it out first!
