Default Cover songs that improve on the original.

Jonny Cash, absolute legend. This was originally a 9-Inch Nails song, and aside from a blasphemous muffed up lyric (swapping 'crown of shit' for 'crown of thorns') this song is much better than the original. The amount of feeling in the song is incredible. If you don't find this song moving then you probably don't have a soul (or have a different taste in music lol): YouTube - Johnny Cash Hurt

Another cover that improves on the original that instantly springs to mind is Jimi Hendrix's version of "All Along the Watchtower". Dylan was so impressed with Hendrix's version that when he came to re-record it he used Hendrix's arrangement. That's the only time I can think of someone covering a cover of their own song: YouTube - All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix

Strangely, Hendrix's most requested song was Hey Joe, which was in itself a cover, though I have no idea who from.

Hmm let me think. All Along the Watchtower is the obvious no.1.

I'd also go for Travis performing Hit Me Baby One More Time and Alanis Morissette's version of My Humps by the Black Eyed Peas

Also my honourable mention goes to The Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain playing Smells Like teen Spirit.

Have to agree completely.

I actually know someone who doesn't like this song. His loss.

Virtually all his songs on this album are better than the originals - his cover of U2's one spring to mind too. He's just awesome (apart from his country stuff which i mainly don't like!).

Guns n Roses - Live and Let Die I think might just be better than Sir Paul's too.

Oooh big deal. You think that something like this is news to me? That something on the internet would have escaped the attention of Dice Man? Everybody who works, has worked or who will ever work for Total Guitar Magazine is an idiot. I would have to agree that Live And Let Die is the best song they ever recorded though.
