That's not correct to say the bookmakers chances are 9 times greater if you back one horse in a 10 runner race, as different horses have different chances. Take a look at an SP stats table sometime, it is quite phenomenal how accurate SP's are, especially on favourties (a slight % to the book makers but Evens shots win 48% of the time, which undermines your example completely
